Links		 Dr. van Dam is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of spinal disorders. Dr. van Dam graduated from West Point United States Military Academy and completed medical school at the University of Southern California (USC). He did an internship and residency training in orthopedic surgery at Letterman Army Medical Center and a fellowship in scoliosis and spinal disorders as a John H. Moe Scoliosis Fellow at the Twin Cities Scoliosis Center, University of Minnesota (Minneapolis). Dr. van Dam served in the United States Army Medical Corps with the majority of time spent at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C. Prior to his retirement from active duty in 1992 he served as Acting Chief of Orthopedics and Director of the Orthopedic Spine Surgery Service at Walter Reed.

Dr. van Dam has practiced orthopedic surgery and trained orthopedic surgeons at various U.S. military facilities, mainly in Frankfurt, Germany and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he was also Acting Director. Dr van Dam has numerous achievement awards, including the Norman T. Kirk Award from the Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons, the Legion of Merit and several meritorious achievement awards from the Army Medical Corps. Dr. van Dam is a recognized specialist in the surgical treatment of spine disorders and has numerous publications and book chapters. He is a regular presenter of various topics in the treatment of spine disorders at national and international meetings. Dr. van Dam is a fellow and member of medical societies, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the Scoliosis Research Society and the North American Spine Society. Dr. van Dam holds appointments as Associate Clinical professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University, Bethesda, and Associate Clinical professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. van Dam practices in San Diego at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla, California, as well as Sharp Children’s and Sharp/Grossmont Hospitals.
